Union Code Of Conduct

Union Code Of Conduct

The Ten Commandments Of Labor

  1. I will not bring complaints against a fellow union member to the attention of management unless I am required to do so under the law.
  2. I will not participate in any conversations with management that criticize, or negatively speculate about any union colleague.
  3. I will settle my differences with union colleagues within the union.
  4. I will not criticize any union colleague except to the individual directly.
  5. If any union colleague is being criticized in my presence, I will confront the criticism and ask that it stop.
  6. I will avoid actions that undermine the bargaining unit and undermine the right of other union members.
  7. I will maintain the confidentiality of information related to the operation of the union and to its individual members.
  8. I will not perform the work of other bargaining unit members.
  9. I will always follow the contract and will always ensure that management is forced to follow the contact as well.
  10. I will be an advocate for the union and for the rights of all union members regardless of my personal opinions.

Our labor unions are not narrow, self-seeking groups. They have raised wages, shortened hours, and provided supplemental benefits. Through collective bargaining and grievance procedures, they have brought justice and democracy to the shop floor. —John F. Kennedy
